In glorious sunshine the congregation of the parish church of St Peter’s gathered at 11am on Sunday 11 November 2018 to remember those who gave their lives for their country. The names of those from Bramerton who died in World War 1 were read by Chris Hawes: Lieutenant Colonel J R M Beckett DSO, Private S J Daynes, Private W A Daynes, Private J P Debbage, Lance Corporal H E Doggett, Private A S Frost, Lance Corporal H S Hayes, Private P W Norman, Leading Seaman J H Osborne RN, and Lance Corporal W F Perfitt. A wreath was laid by the oldest resident in the parish, Tony Coles.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Sally Ann Meadows has put together a small but very informative exhibition which provides some fascinating details about the lives of the men who left the village to fight on foreign soil and who paid the ultimate sacrifice. The exhibition will be in the church for the next few weeks. You can visit the church at any time of the day.
